Artikel ini secara khusus membahas tentang nilai-nilai pendidikan karakter dalam SWD. Para pujangga Jawa masa lalu telah banyak mewariskan nilai-nilai luhur melalui berbagai karya dalam sastra Jawa. Nilai-nilai pendidikan karakter bagi masyarakat Indonesia merupakan hal yang amat penting untuk dimiliki dan diterapkan dalam kehidupan berkeluarga dan bermasyarakat, demikian pula dengan masyarakat Jawa. Naskah Serat Wulang Darmawiyata (SWD) memiliki keunikan pada penanaman nilai pendidikan karakter khas Jawa, yakni membentuk anak mandiri dan cerdas berdasarkan laku prihatin. In addition, the philosophy of SWD is closely integrated with Islamic teachings.Naskah-naskah Jawa peninggalan para leluhur dan para pujangga, sarat dengan nilai pendidikan karakter dan budi pekerti luhur. At the same time, it also explains the importance of communication between children and parents during education process, the principles of child education, and the role model and advice from the parents to the children. Serat teaches values of character education regarding the importance of breastfeeding as a process of building an intimate relationship between children and parents (mother). Using text-based qualitative research methodology, the values of character education in SWD were analyzed with content analysis. This article discusses the values of character education in SWD. Javanese poets in the past inherited the noble values through a lot of literary works. The values of character education are fundamental to internalize and implement within the life of Javanese. Manuscript of Serat Wulang Darmawiya (SWD), for example, promotes character education through laku batin.
Javanese manuscripts as the legacy of ancestors and poets contain important values related to character education and moral values. Those character values are relevant to the present days, including love of science, logical thinking, critical, creative, innovative, religious, honest, and nationalist. In addition to values of ethics, values of character education are also found in Suluk Candra. The ethical findings are ethics to the king/ leader/ state, ethics to teachers, ethics to fellow human beings, and ethics to oneself. At least this Suluk teaches four ethics that can be contextualized with the world of education in the current 4.0 era. Suluk Candra is a script containing Islamic values.
The results of this study are as follows. The working principle of philology aims to produce a text edition, while interpretation aims to analyze the content of the text. The method used in this study is principle working of philology and interpretation of texts. This article tries to explore the character values in it and to contextualize it with today’s education. One of the wulang scripts found in Surakarta is Suluk Candra written by Prince Wijil Kadilangu and stored in Museum Rekso Pustaka Mangkunegaran Library. Of any genres of Javanese scriptures very rich in character values is the wulang script. Exploring the values of character as legacy of the previous generations can be done through scriptures. Indonesia's education is heavily promoting education on characters.

The issues of education that are integral and related with nowadays context include character education/morals, professional teachers, and educational philosophy aimed at seeking perfection of life. It contains character values that are expected to be the source of the curriculum enrichment for the 2013 national curriculum (Kurtilas) that puts the values of the characters as a priority. This serat was written in a genre of piwulang. One of the interesting Javanese manuscripts which was reviewed in this paper is Serat Wasitawala. There are abundant Javanese manuscripts in Indonesia.
